Chinnara Mela at Rangayana

MYSORE, APRIL 13, 2013:

The famous Chinnara mela, ragayana’s summer camps for the young children will be commencing here from April 15.

According to Rangayana deputy director Nirmala Matpathi the theme of the mela was aimed to give awareness among the children on the tradtion and customs, especially in the days of globalization.

She said that all the traditional festivities would be held in the camps in order to bring happiness to people, but also strengthen relationships.

During the 25-five day camp, the participants will be educated about festivals by “celebrating” the festivals with ellu-bella, bevu-bella, okuli (holi), flying kite, pulling cart and the like. “Children will be taught about every festival celebrated in India,” she added.

Mysore Deepika and professor krishne gowda  speak about the theme. At the end of the camp, the children will stage a play based on festivals.

The specialty of this year’s camp is kite-flying. A team of experts will teach children on how to prepare kites. The other activities include painting, colours, playing in mud, collage, drawing rangoli, making mud dolls, theatre games, group singing, group dancing, snake show, environment watch, screening of children movies and the like.

Director P Sheshadri will inaugurate the Mela at Vanaranga in the presence of tennis player Pooja Venkatesh.
