ENARADA, Mysore, August 26, 2013:

People of Karnataka have once again blessed Congress party in the legislative council elections from the local authorities’ constituencies.  Recently Congress has won both the Lok Sabha seats in the Bye-elections.

Congress candidate R. Dharmasena  won the by-elections to the Legislative Council from the Mysore–Chamarajanagar Local Authority constituency defeating KJP candidate  U S Shekar. In this constituency which was the home turf of Chief Minister Siddaramiah, Dharamasena who is the son of  former minister Rachaiah got 3779 votes while shekar polled 2611 votes and the lone independent candidate Ayub khan received only 75  votes.

The byelection was necessitated here following the resignation of BJP MLC  Prof. K.R. Mallikarjunappa from the BJP to join the Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP).

In Dharawad- Haveri-Gadag constituency, Congress Candidate Nagaraj Chebbi trounced former CM Jagadish Shettar’s brother Pradeep Shetty.  Nagaraja Chebbi got 3492 votes and BJP’s Pradeep Shettar polled 3447 votes.

MLC Shivaraj Sajjan had resigned from here the BJP to join KJP.

In Chitradurga – Davangere constituency Congress rebel candidate G Raghu Achar, who contested as Independent candidate won the seat by securing 1917 votes. BJP candidate K.S.Naveen got 1694 votes and Congress candidate M.A.Sethuram came third in the race by getting 1358 votes.

This seat was vacant following the resignation of BJP MLC G.H.Thippareddy who got elected to the Assembly.

In the 75 members strength Upper house,  there are 39 BJP members, 19 Congress members , 12 JD(S) members, Independents 2 ,vacant 2 and Council Chairman 1.

Even though BJP, JD(S) and KJP parties have put up a common candidate against Congress candidate, people have rejected the opportunistic politics and wholeheartedly supported Congress.  It was a disgrace for BJP which ruled the state for five years and lost miserably.
