The demand made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa by writing letters to PM for constituting Cauvery Water Management Board is politically motivated and law does not permit it, said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today.

Speaking to journalists at Mysore Helipad, he said Karnataka Government met PM Narendra Modi twice on the issue.

“When we met along with all party delegation, Prime Minister assured that there was no such move to constitute the board” Siddarmaiah said.

When the matter is with Supreme Court and civil hearing pending on the final tribunal award which was announced in February 2007, demanding for a separate board is not convincing, he felt.

It can be recalled that, Union Water Resource Minister Uma Bharti said the proposal for setting up the Board was never there and there was no direction from the Supreme Court.
