Speaking to Enarada.com, band members Ms. Ida palm and Ms. Kristina Eriksson said ‘Kiriaka’ started with an intention to participate in political demonstrations and later became an organised performing band.

“Music was not the main topic of the band. To galvanise protests during the EU summit in Gothenburg (second largest city in Sweden) 2001 and to oppose visit by then U.S. president George W. Bush, drums and percussion convoy started and passed through small villages to create momentum against military operation,” said Eriksson.

The band is still active during demonstrations in Sweden, Ida Palm said.

The duo mentioned band plays both drums and other percussion instruments such as Base drums, Surdo, Repenique, Tarol, Agogo and few other instruments.

Members are from different professions and take part in band activities as a ‘hobby’ without expecting any monetary benefit. However, the band collects fee during world tours by playing at private functions and the money raised will be used for travelling expenses, said members.
