First ever woman auto driver from Mysore city received a special gift and big applause for her bold initiative.
In order to appreciate and motivate, Lions club of Heritage donated a brand new auto rickshaw costing Rs.1.6 lakh to Ms.Veena, first woman auto driver, today in a simple function.
Speaking on the occasion, the 39 year old Ms.Veena thanked donors for reducing her burden of paying rent for the vehicle which she was hiring to transport people.
“With the new auto rickshaw I do not have to pay rent and makes me financially strong” she said.
She recalled that she was nervous and scared when she took the job of driving with a rented auto in a ‘Male Dominated’ sector and she is now proud of herself after earning goodwill among public.
Deserted by her husband about ten years back she and her two small children had to live in utter poverty. She gives credit to her mother Lakshmamma, a road side food vendor who took care of her during difficult days and inspired her for taking a risky job.
She believed in popular saying ‘Where there is a will there is way’ and proved that women are capable of doing any task
