Mangalore, April 15, 2013:
Ivan D Souza, one of the aspirants for Congress ticket from Mangalore south who finally lost the race to J R Lobo, is now appointed as the convener of the election committee for the eight assembly constituencies of Mangalore district. As convener Ivan will be heading the election committee of the party and would also organize and supervise election-related meetings and other matters pertaining to assembly elections 2013.
Ivan who was the Congress candidate in Mangalore in 2008 had lost to Yogish Bhat by a margin of over 8000 votes. He was once again a strong contender along with J R Lobo but lost the final race. A miffed Ivan raised a banner of revolt and even held a protest march in front of the Congress office along with his supporters.
With Ivan supporters like Ashraf and others expressing their full support to J R Lobo it looked as though a truce was arrived at between the two factions. It is clear that Ivan’s appointment as convener is reward for the ceasefire agreed upon.
