KISS Boy Returns Back After Participating In Malala Day UN Youth Assembly

ENARADA, Bhubaneshwar, July 16, 2013

Laxman Hembram, a tribal student of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), returned back to Bhubaneswar , today, July 16, 2013 after participating in the Malala Day United Nations Youth Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.He represented India at the prestigious international event held on July 12, 2013. Total 120 youth leaders from many countries participated.

Dr. P. K. Routray, CEO, KISS, Prof. Arjun Sahoo, Principal, Mr. Pramod Patra, Asst. CEO and Mr. Rudra Jena gave him a rousing welcome at the airport upon his arrival.

During his visit to New York, Laxman also talked with the Indian High Commissioner and gave his views to BBC. He talked on ‘Education for All’ at the Malala Day United Nations Youth Assembly, outlining quality education system and youth union. He also informed the Assembly about free education being provided in KISS to 20,000 tribal children. He discussed on how to eradicate poverty through education.

The visit gave him an opportunity to know more about education systems of other countries. Talking about his four-day visit, Laxman said, he got a chance to meet and talk with Malala Yousafzai and representatives of various other countries.

He expressed his gratitude to Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for his mentoring and inspiring. His participation in the meet is a matter of great pride for KISS and  tribal community, said Dr. Samanta.
