It is time to increase the scientific temper among the students and inspire them to take up basic and applied science courses which is key to development of our country, according to Dr Achyuta Samanta, executive committee member of the Indian Science Congress Association. Addressing a huge gathering at the Children’s Science Congress conclave, as part of the ongoing 103rd Indian Science Congress meet at Mysuru on Monday, Dr Samanta said, “We need to popularise science among the young minds. We should also inspire and groom them to become the future scientists of our country.”

Lauding the efforts of the children’s science congress which completed 25 years, the KIIT and KISS founder said, “I am social scientist and always fond of children. In fact, I am living in the midst of 52,0000 children who study at KIIT and KISS campus in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. We have already successfully experimented the introduction of science to the indigenous children. In fact, you won’t believe that there are hundreds of such indigenous children still living in pitiable condition in jungles of Odisha. However, our efforts of bringing them to mainstream and teach them Science is bearing fruits. I am on a mission to groom these indigenous children to become future scientists.”

He also recalled that science was in the blood of Indians as the country had made remarkable progress in the field of Science since the inception of civilisation. “This is best explained as Harappa and Mohenjo Daro, where people had mastered the techniques in metallurgy and produced copper, bronze, lead, and tin. We also have the credit of creating zero, pi and many more mathematical formulae and scientific experiments. We Indians are habituated with scientific things. Even today, Indian scientists are making waves across the globe. I hope that if we continue to encourage students to take up greater interest in science courses, then we can foresee a bright future for our country. At the same time, I also feel there is a need to teach Science to indigenous students so that we can bring the best out of it and improve their livelihood.”
