Enarada, Mysore, June 20, 2013:

The Mysore district administration geared up to implement the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for LPG subsidy linked with Aadhaar from July 1.

This pilot scheme has started already  in other  districts, including Tumkur in Karnataka, but it was postponed in Mysore owing to the Assembly elections in Periyapatna, which was put off following the death of the BJP candidate.

The elections were held on May 28, instead of May 5, and the results were announced on May 31, while the poll code was in place till June 3.

An official release issued here said that a review meeting here held here yesterday  revealed that of the 5,01,927 LPG consumers as per records of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), 4,03,258 LPG consumer numbers had been seeded with the LPG distributors amounting to 80 per cent progress. But only 3,02,934 bank accounts had been seeded with the respective LPG consumer numbers, which accounted for 60 per cent so far.

M.B. Pandey, Statistical Officer at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, told representatives of oil companies and banks that many consumers, especially in rural areas, were ignorant of the imperatives of getting their Aadhaar numbers seeded with bank accounts and LPG consumer numbers.

He advised the officials to communicate to consumers whether their accounts had been successfully seeded or not and help them comply with the requirements for seeding their accounts.

Banks have been instructed not only to install drop boxes to facilitate the public to submit documents but also deploy staff to help them in the process.

Mr Venkat Narayan, deputy general manager, State Bank of Mysore, said all bank officers should compulsorily participate in the public awareness drive to be conducted by the oil companies.
