Police release sketch of Manipal gang rape accused suspect


Enarada, Udupi, June 24, 2013:

Police today, released the sketch of one of the three accused in the Manipal gang rape incident and sought the help of the public in identifying the culprit. Police so far have not made any headway in getting any clue .

Addressing a press conference IGP Western Range Pratap Reddy said that the sketch was prepared based on the descriptions given by the victim who is now recuperating in the hospital.

He said that considering the sensitivity of issue and the mental condition of the patient who is traumatized, the police did not interact with the victim directly.  But the details were gathered with the help of doctors and medical attendants attending on her and hence the delay in releasing the sketch.

The police have formed an eight member team to nab the culprits and about 200 policemen are working in the case.  He also revealed that so far 17 persons have been questioned and the police are close to short listing the suspects   and such autos are isolated one by one.

A case has been filed under section 375 D for abduction and rape and the police are waiting for the girl to recuperate completely so that they can question her, the IGP said.
