In a major setback for the BJP in Karnataka, two-time BJP MLA from Udupi, Raghupathi Bhat announced today, that he is not contesting the forthcoming assembly elections. His announcement comes in the wake of a widely circulated CD that showed him in a sexual act with an unidentified woman. In an official statement to the media, he said that he has decided not to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections owning to family, business and political reasons.
A visibly upset Bhat seems to have conveyed his decision not to contest to TV channels which contacted him to elicit his reaction to the CD under circulation. Sources say that Bhat took this decision not to contest so as to prevent another embarrassment to the party. It may be recalled that Bhat was in a serious imbroglio following the allegations of his involvement in the disappearance of his wife Padma Priya and her subsequent suicide.
The timing of the release of the CD is done to coincide with the forthcoming assembly elections and it gives an impression that it was done with the intent of harming his reputation. It might be a political conspiracy by his detractors to finish him politically. Though Bhat says he has not done anything wrong the time is too short for him to prove that it is a morphed CD, as he has pointed out. A probe in this regard may take its own time and there is too little time for Bhat to prove his sincerity.
There are rumours that the CD might be the handy work of his detractors from his own party who were opposed to his candidature, for the fear of further denting the party’s image. It is now believed that the BJP is considering fielding the wife or son of late Dr V S Acharya from Udupi. As of now the CD has cut short Raghupathi Bhat’s political career.
Sri Rhaupathy Bhat is a good leader and has earned lot of respect from all public in Udupi and Manipal Now after this incident he has spoiled his reputation Why did he has to do this kind of stupid thing? Feeling sad for Sri Raghupathy Bhat

Mr.Krishna, Only dirty mind can comment like this that too to a lady. This shows the respect you give to a woman. I don’t think you are a clean man. The language used by you shows your character.
If you want to know Mr.Bhat, just see the developments done in Udupi and we have to appreciate and praise Mr.Bhat. Its natural that during elections such conspiracy will be done by people jealous about him or his success or by other parties just to kill his political career. In my opinion, the matter has to be probed and guilty should be punished.
By the way I am not from Udupi. But frequently visit Udupi and neighboring villages and work done by Mr.Bhat are required to be appreciated.
