Bangalore, February 265, 2013:

The Railway budget is totally  disappointing for Karnataka as most of the projects proposed  by the State have not been considered, Chief Minister Jagadish  Shettar said, slamming the “injustice”.

The average National Railway density is 24 per cent  whereas it’s only 16.9 per cent in case of Karnataka. Tamil  Nadu has a railway density of 31 per cent, according to Shettar.   “Neglecting this aspect of less railway density in Karnataka, Union Railway Minister has failed to sanction new  rail routes and trains to Karnataka. Karnataka is the only  state which is providing land and 50 per cent of the cost of  new railway projects. In spite of this, it is regrettable that  the demands of the state have been sidelined”, he said.

Out of the seven new railway projects requested by the  State, only Gadag-Wadi, Srinivaspur-Madanpalli, Chikkaballapur-Puttaparti lines have been approved. The remaining proposals — Gadag-Haveri, Kadri-Puttaparti,Dharwad-Belgaum and K R Nagar-Kushalanagar — have not been considered. The State’s request to undertake Bijapur-Shahabad, Talaguppa-Honnavar and Hubli-Ankola projects on PPP basis has also been not considered.

“We had requested to include the railway projects pertaining to Tiptur-Dudda, Gadag-Mundargi-Harapanahalli, Mangalore-Gulbarga, Alamatti-Koppal, Alamatti-Yadgir, Bijapur-Athani, doubling of Bangalore-Mangalore, Bangalore-Sirdi, (via Tumkur, Davanagere, Hubli, Bagalkote, Bijapur), Raichur-Bagalkote, day train for Bangalore-Mangalore (via Mysore). It is regrettable that none of these projects have been sanctioned”, he said.

Though the movement of a few trains has been extended,  it is more beneficial to the other states as the distance extended is very small, Shettar said. “On the whole, instead  of addressing our earlier grievance, Union Railway Minister has done further injustice of Karnataka”.

  1. we are very much happy for the extensions of trains to historical Mysore city. But our representatives still neglected the the most neglected part of Hyderabad Karnataka i.e. Bidar. The only train 16593/16594 nanded -Bangalore connects with capital city Bangalore and other part of Karnataka. It is located at the top in Karnataka map but even after 6 decades of independence and republic it deprives a convenient measures of transportation either within the state or with in the country few train from hyd .
kindly requesting representatives and govt to consider the region in future
