Enarada, Mysore, June 28, 2013:

Canara Bank, a premier Public Sector Bank of the country, opened its 3742nd Branch with an ATM facility at Gungralchatra, Yelwal Hobli, Mysore District, today.  With this, 30 Canara Bank branches are operating in Mysore District and 110 Branches in Mysore Circle.

In a glittering function, Deputy Governor of RBI  Dr. K C Chakrabarty, inaugurated the Rural Outreach Programme and declared open the Branch and ATM. Dr. Deepali Pant Joshi, Executive Director, RBI, G.T.Devegowda, MLA, Chamundeswari Constituency, R K Dubey, Chairman & Managing Director, Canara Bank were the prominent personalities present on the occasion.

Adopting a holistic approach to Branch opening, Canara Bank has arranged “Rural Outreach Programme” along with Branch opening, with some unique features. As a part of Rural Outreach programme, Bank opened more than 4000 Basic Savings Bank Accounts and linked more than 80% of the accounts with Aadhaar Numbers.

The Bank also extended immediate credit facility by way of IOD (in built overdraft) to more than 1000 account holders in Financial Inclusion Villages, credit linked 100 SHGs and 10 joint liability groups.  On this occasion, the bank launched its new product ‘Aadhaar Samruddi Card’, an Aadhaar enabled debit card which enables cash withdrawal at ATMs and also micro ATMs with Business Correspondent Agents of the Bank in rural areas.

To enhance the farmers’ participation and involvement in Agri Credit and Rural Development Initiatives, 10 Farmers Clubs were also launched by the Bank on this occasion.

Deputy Governor, RBI in his address to the villagers explained the policy initiatives taken by RBI in extending banking coverage / facilitation in rural areas and providing access to credit facilities with the objective of bringing more and more people under Financial Inclusion.

R K Dubey, Chairman and Managing Director, said that Bank is determined to provide to rural people, all schemes, products and facilities that are available to urban consumers and Aadhaar Samruddi Card with facility to draw cash at ATMs and also through village Business Correspondents, launched today, is an example.
