Former leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, S.R. Patil was inducted as cabinet minister in Siddaramaiah’s ministry on Saturday.
Governor H. R. Bhardwaj administered oath of office and secrecy to Patil at 10.45 am at the Banquet hall of Raj Bhavan. With Patil’s induction, the strength of the ministry will increase to 30.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and most of his cabinet colleagues were present in the swearing ceremony. Patil is the lone member from the state legislative council in the cabinet. He will be appointed as the leader of the house in council.
Interestingly former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda was also present at the swearing ceremony. Gowda is elected to be the leader of opposition in the state legislative council. The BJP will have an upper hand in the Legislative Council with its strength of 40 members including Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy, as compared with 17 members of Congress. ENN
