Major General KS Venugopal, General Officer Commanding, Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area today inaugurated the Sandeep Unnikrishnan Officers Enclave in the the presence of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s proud parents Mrs Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan and Mr K.Unnikrishnan.
The newly constructed Army Officers’ Colony on Dickenson Road, Bangalore has been named after the hero of 26/11 attack, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who fought valiantly during the National Security Guard (NSG) operation launched to rescue hundreds of hostages from Hotel Taj, Mumbai on 26 Nov 2009 and attained martyrdom in action. He was awarded the Ashok Chakra, the highest gallantry award in peace time, for his valiant action.
The Sandeep Unnikrishnan Officers colony is the first set of houses being inaugurated under the Married Accommodation Project Phase II (MAP) being constructed for the army personnel in Bangalore. The MAP was launched by the Government of India in 2010 to tide over the problems faced by the Army personnel returning from field/border areas who face a long waiting period due to shortage of accommodation in the peace stations.
The function was attended by a large number of Army personnel including Brigadier A.Pinto, Deputy General Officer Commanding of Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area and civil dignitaries.
