ENARADA, Bangalore, July 26,2014

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has announced the seven franchises, who will vie for the trophy of the third edition of the Karnataka Premier League (KPL).

The seven contending teams were officially approved during the Karnataka Premier League’s Governing Council meeting.​

​ The Karnataka Premier League will be named after Late Srikantadatta Narasimharaaja Wadiyar, past President whose vision was to conduct the KPL and take it to the districts of Karnataka.

KPL will witness participation of franchisee teams representing cities of Belgaum, Bijapur, Mangalore, Mysore, Hubli-Dharwad and Bellary.

The seventh franchise is the ‘All Star Team’ led by well-known Kannada film star Kitccha Sudeep.

There are a few requests from various corporates & group of consortium willing to take up Bengaluru franchisee rights .The Governing Council has decided to meet again to take a final decision on the eighth franchisee.​

​ ​The T-20 franchise based league will kick off from August 28 with the finals scheduled for September 13 and during this time will tour the cities of Bangalore, Mysore and Hubli.

Vinay Mruthyunjaya -Official Spokesperson of KSCA said, “We are glad to present our seven contenders for the 2014 edition of the Karnataka Premier League. The decision on the selection of these seven franchises was arrived at by the Karnataka Premier League’s Governing Council post receiving a combination of bids and interests from former & new franchises. The tournament is KSCA’s tribute to the Scion of Mysore Royal Family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar and an initiative to promote the cricketing talent in the state. We wish the teams all the very best and urge them to put their best foot forward in the state’s most celebrated sporting event of the year.”

The last two editions of the KPL have generated enormous levels of interest and acceptance across the state and the matches too have witnessed a large number of viewership at various venues.

This year too, the event hopes to receive similar enthusiasm and passion from cricket lovers all over Karnataka.
