Congress President Sonia Gandhi who was in Mangalore as part of her poll campaign lashed out at the BJP government for failing to give a good governance and for betraying the aspirations of the people of the state.
Addressing a huge public meeting at Nehru Maidan today evening April 27, 2013 she accused the BJP of betraying the mandate of the people of Karnataka. She said “BJP has failed the state in various fronts including breakdown of law and order. The Congress if comes to power would provide top priority to restore the image of the state which has taken a beating during the BJP rule. Congress would ensure stability, peace and prosperity”.
She took the BJP to task on the very issue of corruption which the BJP has been using to criticize the Congress and said “at one time investors were queuing up to invest in the state but in the last five years the situation is just the opposite. Due to corruption and lack of governance the investors are now forced to opt for other states for investing. As a result the state has suffered a setback and youth are deprived of the job opportunities that come with the inflow of money”.
Pointing out that Mangalore city had a glorious past and a brilliant future she said people should cast their votes to the Congress as it can provide them the stability, security, protection and prosperity.
KPCC President Dr Parameshwar who welcomed the gathering took a dig at the BJP saying the state has not witnessed any progress during BJP rule and it has tarnished the image of the state. He assured that the Congress if comes to power would provide 30 kg rice at the cost of one rupee per Kg. He also assured subsidy of Rs. 4 a litre to milk producers.
Congress leaders Ambika Soni, Oscar Fernandes, Janardhan Poojary, Madhusudhan Mistry and others were present on the occasion.
