ENARADA, Mysore, Decmber 14 , 2013:

The state government intend to establish Sports University in Mysore, said Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports, Abhayachandra Jain, today.

Speaking after flagging off the 48th Karnataka State Cross Country Championship 2013-14 at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in city organised jointly by Mysore District Athletics Association, Karnataka State Athletics Association and Vidya Vikas Educational Trust, he said exclusive university for sports will immensely help sports persons of the State.

“I have discussed this issue with chief minister Siddramaiah and he has responded positively” Abhaychandra Jain said. He hinted that funds for the same may be earmarked in the next budget.

About 1000 students from different parts of the State are participating in the Championship which will be held in different categories — Men – 12 kms, Women and Boys (U-20) – 8 kms, Girls U-20 and Boys U-18- 16 kms, Girls U-18 – 4 kms, Boys, Girls U-16 – 3 kms and Open School Category for both Boys and Girls – 2 kms.

During this event the athletes will be selected to take part at the National Cross Country to be held in West Bengal later this month.
