As Karnataka is divided over celebrating the controversial Tipu Jayanti, the Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) has set an ultimatum to the Congress government for not conducting any more Tipu Jayanti celebrations terming the November 10th Jayanti as the “first and last” one.

VHP zonal Organising Secretary Gopal on Thursday said the Siddaramaiah Government had hurt the sentiments of majority community by organising a function for Tipu who was notorious for his bigotry “Tipu had destroyed more than a 8,000 temples and killed thousands of Hindus. Even today, he is considered as a villain in Kodagu for his massacres. Despite opposition, the Government went ahead with the Tipu Jayanti which resulted in nothing but chaos in the state. So, we warn the state not to go for any controversial Jayantis henceforth.”

He also alleged that Congress government which was known for its anti-Hindu stance was going a step ahead by provoking the majority community every now and then.

 Why was Nov 10 chosen?

Now, everyone is questioning as to why the State Government had organised the Tipu Jayanti in a hurry that too at a wrong date as original Tipu Jayanti was supposed to be on November 20.

Speaking to Enarada.com, BJP spokesperson Prakash Sesharaghavachar said, “November 10 was not Tipu’s birthday but it was the day when Tipu had hanged 700 Iyengars from Melukote and the State Government has chosen that day. Incidentally, this year, November 10 was Naraka Chaturdasi (Deepavali), the holiest day for Hindus.”

Who killed Kuttappa?

Social media is abuzz with the recent Tipu controversies.

One of the most viral messages on WhatsApp and Facebook is; the two mysteries which need immediate answers is-Why Katappa killed Bahubali and who killed Kuttappa? (50-year old Kuttappa was a VHP leader from Madikeri who was found dead under mysterious circumstances during VHP’s protest on Tipu Jayanti on Tuesday. While the VHP argues that Kuttappa was killed by fundamentalists, the police argue that Kuttappa fell from a great height and eventually died. There is still no clear picture).

Another message doing the rounds is the ill luck faced by those promoting Tipu. For example, the messages read that actor-producer Sanjay Khan faced tough times after his TV serial on Tipu (The Sword of Mysore), followed by liquor baron Vijay Mallya facing financial loss after buying Tipu’s sword in action and now the Congress Government!
