After mollifying Ivan D Souza in Mangalore South the Congress had another success in quelling the rebellion in Mangalore North where a crestfallen Vijay Kumar Shetty was all set to contest as a rebellion. Senior Congress leader Janardhana Poojary finally succeeded in soothing the ruffled feathers of Shetty who finally decided to bow down to his leader’s wishes and desisted from contesting as an independent candidate against party nominee Moideen Bava.
Speaking to enarada.com Vijay Kumar Shetty confirmed that he is not contesting as an independent. “I had kept my nomination paper and even my resignation from the party ready because I cannot contest as an independent without resigning from the parent party. But Janardhana Poojary requested me not to do anything that might harm the party’s interest and I had to give in. Poojary is my leader and I could not say no to him”, says a dejected Vijay Kumar Shetty.
On asked whether he would campaign for Moideen Bava, Shetty gave an evasive response saying “he would work for the Congress party and not for any individual”.
It looks as though everything is calm and quiet as of now from Shetty camp. But there is disappointment brewing within and it cannot be said that supporters of Vijay Kumar Shetty will follow their leader on this issue.
