BJP’s top leader and former Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa, who often suffers from ‘foot in mouth’ problem was once again in soup for his insensitive remarks against a female journalist.
When a female journalist sought to know why opposition (Eshwarappa is currently the leader of opposition in legislative council) parties are not effectively tackling the state government on various issues especially law and order, Eshwarappa shot back-“You are working here now. So, what can an opposition party staying elsewhere do if someone drags and rape you.”
‘I am shell shocked’
Recalling the horrific answer from Eshwarappa, Poornima Hegde, a video journalist attached to Kannada tv channel-BTv said that she was still in a state of shock.

Speaking to Enarada.com, she said, “We were near Mallapura (near Magadi) interviewing Mr KS Eshwarappa. When I questioned him as why opposition party leaders were failing to play an effective role in the state, KS Eshwarappa’s reply left me in a state of shock. For a minute, I and my cameraman went blank completely. We needed time to come out of this utter shock. Now, my biggest worry is that KS Eshwarappa, who has served in various capacities as deputy chief minister of State can be so irresponsible in speaking to a woman journalist, then imagine the plight of an ordinary woman. If an MLC can make such ruthless statements in front of the camera, then how can we even trust the people representative whom we vote and expect to protect us. To be honest, I am really shocked till now. Meanwhile, I have been receiving calls from women’s commission expressing solidarity. I shall go back to office, consult my seniors before planning future course of action.”
