ENARADA, Mysore, June 4, 2014

The 130th birth anniversary of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, the architect of modern Mysore, was celebrated in a grand manner today across Mysore city.

The celebrations were organized by district administration and various private organisations.

The district administration, Kannada and Culture Department and Mysore City Corporation have jointly organized a colourful procession, carrying the portrait of the king from palace court yard in a traditional manner.

Similar to world famous dasara procession, number of folk troupes in eye-catching costumes performing puja kunita, kamsale, dollu kunita and other folk dances with rhythmic beating of drums were part of the procession.

District in-Charge Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad offered puja to the Nandi Kambha. He remembered immense contribution of the great king who made Mysore one of the biggest tourism destinations in the country.

“Even the concept of town planning as he envisioned and implemented explains his passion for developing Mysore as a heritage city. In the coming years, Government may celebrate King’s birth anniversary on a larger scale in the state” he said.
