Hindu organizations gherao Kavoor police station, demand release of former corporator

A large group of protestors belonging to various Hindu organizations gheroed Kavoor police station today morning, demanding release of former  BJP corporator Sharath Kumar and  another person by name Pramod  who were  arrested yesterday (March 14) evening following clashes between BJP and Congress supporters  during a victory procession at Kunjathabail.

The protestors accused SI Umesh  and constable Hariprasad of Kavoor police station of  hitting Sharat and Pramod and have given 48-hour deadline to suspend both the police officials failing which they have threatened to intensify their protest.

It may be recalled that though there have been no untoward incidents following the announcement of ULB election results a Dakshina Kannada, a former BJP Corporator from ward no 13 (Kunjathabail North) was arrested for allegedly throwing stones during  the victory procession carried out by Congress candidate K Mohammed of Congress  late evening yesterday,  March 14, 2013.

K Mohammed who won from Kunjathabail ward trouncing his BJP opponent Sharath Kumar, a former corporator, has been arrested as it was alleged that his supporters pelted stones at the rally.  Mohammed and his supporters were carrying out a victory procession late in the evening in their ward and trouble broke out as stones were pelted at the rally allegedly by the supporters of BJP corporator, when the procession was drawing to a close.    This led to altercation and friction between two groups when the Congress workers resorted to retaliation.  The police who intervened had to cane the miscreants to bring the situation under control.

The situation became tense following the arrival of Bajrang Dal leaders like Sharan Pumpwell and Madhukiran.  As a result of this street brawl a number of people were injured and were admitted to hospital.  Former corporator Sharath Kumar was taken into custody by the police.   Kavoor police acted speedily to bring the situation under the control.  Police had kept a strict vigil in the area all through the night.

It may be remembered that prohibitory orders in place preventing candidates and parties from carrying out processions, victory marches or holding public meetings. This incident in Kunjathabail has been reported three days after the results have been announced.
