There was a charged up devotional atmosphere around Veerapur Oni where Veerabhadreshwar Temple exists. The temple premises was crowded with Devotees who turned up in large numbers today to take part in the ‘Jathra’ mahotsav.
As part of the ritual, while many devotees including women chose to walk on the makeshift fire ‘kunda’ , some men were seen piercing their tongue through thin iron rod. “It looks like an unusual display of torture to body but we are voluntarily doing it and there is no pain at all. It is the mercy of veerabhadrewhara swamy who give enough powers to withstand the pain” said a devotee who underwent such an ordeal.
