Mangalore jail which is always in the news for wrong reasons is once again in the news for the notoriety involving a scuffle between its prized inmate underworld don Rashid Malbari and a recent entrant into the jail Muneer Ahmed, a self-proclaimed former police informer turned thief.
According to information available Rashid Malbari along with other jail inmates like Madoori Isubbu and Hyder reportedly thrashed Muneer Ahmed today, April 12, 2013, in the jail as they believed him to be revealing secrets to the police about the happenings inside the jail.
The trio believed that Muneer was passing on vital information to crime branch police who were visiting the jail regularly to take stock of the situation as the jail is notorious for free flow of drugs, sim cards, mobile phones and outside food to some of the known criminals lodged there.
Muneer is admitted to Wenlock Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Muneer was arrested by Mangalore police on March 26, 2013 on charges of stealing electronic goods from various shops in the city and was lodged in the same jail where Malbari is. This scuffle has added another chapter to the muddled character of Muneer.
It may be recalled that Muneer Ahmed grabbed headlines in November 2011 when he revealed in a press conference that he was a police informer to Bunder police inspector Vinay Gaonkar and was collecting hafta to the inspector from other businessmen in Bunder. An enquiry was conducted by the police department but Muneer failed to appear for deposing in this connection and the case was closed treating the complaint as false.
