ENARADA, Bangalore, September 11, 2013:

Former Minister Mr A Krishnappa was unanimously elected as new state president of JD(S).

In a meeting held in a city hotel, chaired by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, the party leaders elected Mr Krishnappa as new president.

Speaking to reporters after the election, Mr Deve Gowda said that the decision was subjected to ratification by party National Executive, which will take place in October last week in Bangalore. “As per party constitution, the National President has powers to dissolve any elected body in the party and elect new office bearers” he said.

“There has been a propaganda that JD(S) is a father-children party and belongs to one community. I wonder, in which state there is no father-children party. Besides, we wanted to send across a message that ours is not a father-children party and JD(S) do not belong to one community,” he said.

Since new President is elected, the old office bearers and other committees also will be dissolved.

The new president, with consultation with National President and Opposition leader Mr H D Kumaraswamy, will appoint the new office bearers.

The party will also re-constitute the Parliamentary Board and Political Affairs Committee within next three to four days. All these will be subjected to ratification by National Executive, he said.

Though there is no provision to form core committee in the party constitution, a committee, which will look into the election in all 28 Parliamentary Segments will be formed.

“I will have to tour other states, where JD(S) is in a position to fight Parliament elections. This include Kerala, where we have tie up with left parties for the last 30 years,” Mr Gowda said.

Thanking both Mr Gowda and Mr Kumaraswamy for reposing faith in him, Mr Krishnappa said that his first priority will be to organise the party in all the districts and prepare it for forthcoming elections.

“I will ensure that my work will not dishonor the party or the party leaders. We will present failure of Congress in both National and State level before the people. By making Mr Siddaramaiah as chief minister, Congress feels that it has done a lot to the backward class people. However, both Mr Gowda and Mr Kumaraswamy, when they were in power, have given more programs to backward class people than the Congress gave,” he added.
