Mangalore, June 3, 2013:

ACP T R Jagannath whom ASI Srikala had accused of sexual harassment, has been transferred to Bangalore, according to reliable information.

Jagannath who had served the district in various capacities in the last several years, has been transferred pending inquiry by a special committee formed by the Commissioner,   to look into the matter of sexual harassment.

It may be recalled that ASI Srikala had lodged a written complaint with the Commissioner of Police against ACP Jagannath of sexually and mentally harassing her.  She had also accused the ACP of denying her leave on several occasions.  Following her complaint, the Commissioner had referred the matter to “sexual harassment solving committee” for investigation and submit its report.

In the meantime many organizations including DYFI alleged that the police department was trying to protect Jagannath by pressurizing Srikala to withdraw her complaint against Jagannath.

They also complained that officers of equal rank and subordinates of that of Jagannath have been appointed in the investigation committee.

DYFI members alleged that the police were trying to intimidate Srikala by opening a case of cheating against her husband so as to silence her.  Even as this controversy goes on Jagannath has been transferred to Bangalore and it is expected that he might be asked to appear before the committee for inquiry as and when the committee calls for.
