ENARADA, Bangalore, July 5, 2013:

Bangalore-based Anuradha Vaidyanathan, the noted woman triathlete and `Iron-Man’ athlete, has been named as the Brand Ambassador of `Educate Girls’, a Rajasthan-based NGO that is holistically tackling issues at the root cause of gender inequality in India’s education system.

`Educate Girls’comprehensive model reforms Government schools through community ownership and ensures 100 % enrolment, higher attendance and improved outcomes for all girls.

The Educate Girls Programme, which started as a pilot project in 2008 in Poli, Rajasthan, has grown into a huge project with an annual budget outlay of Rs.10 crore providing quality education to girls in Government schools with the involvement of local communities in villages. It has brought 48,000 girls who had dropped out, back to schools, besides enrolling several thousand girls in schools.

Commenting on her association with the NGO, Anuradha said, “I am thrilled to be associated with ‘Educate Girls’. I am filled with a sense of purpose when working with ‘Educate Girls’ simply because there is so much I am yet to learn about the realities girls/women face in my own country, every single day.”

Welcoming Anuradha on board as its brand Ambassador, Safeena Husain, Executive Director, ‘Educate Girls’, said, “We have ambitious goal to improve access and quality of education for four million children living in underserved communities in India by 2016. Having Anu Vaidyanathan, a highly educated and qualified woman representing our cause is a great honour for Educate Girls.”
