‘Aatid Radd Dina” (two days in aati), a two day traditional food and cultural beach festival organized at Panambur beach has received encouraging response from the general public.

The two day programme starting from today, August 9, 2013 was organized by Rotary Club of Mangalore Central in association with Panambur Beatch Tourism Development Project.

This beach festival was a bold attempt to remember and celebrate the unique tradition & culture and the food habits of the people of this coastal region.   DC N Prakash inaugurated the festival.

Traditional food items of Tulunadu like Thimmare chutney (brahmi chutney), padengi tetla gasi (green gram), padengi kanile gasi (green gram bamboo shoots gasi), Tojank-pelthari (locally grown plant during rainy season with jackfruit seeds), Thekkare addya (eatable made of rice and cucumber), Kudutha chutney  (horse grame chutney),  kori rotti, kori sukka, etti chutney (dry prawn chutney) and  many other traditional cuisine familiar to this region was made available at the stall.

Rt Rajgopal Rai, President of Rotary Club pointed out that this food and cultural festival was an attempt to familiarize the younger generation with our unique tradition, culture and food habits.  “We are trying our best to keep the tradition alive and we believe people will support us in our endeavor to preserve our heritage”.

Today, being a holiday, people flocked to the beach to savour the traditional cuisine and enjoy some valuable time on sea side.  The day was quite pleasant as the rain had receded encouraging people to step out.  The food festival was like a double whammy along with the cool breeze and the beauty of the roaring sea.  Many were seen having fun tasting some of these traditional dishes of Tulunadu.

Yathish Baikampady, CEO of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project opines that the beach festival has received encouraging response from the people.

“People have responded overwhelmingly to the food and cultural festival.  This has encouraged us a great deal and we are happy by their positive response”, he said talking to enarada.com.

The inaugural programme was attended by union minister for railways Adhir Choudhary, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Moideen Bava, D K Dist Commissioner N Prakash, Rtn Rajgopal Rai, Yathish Baikampady and others were the guests at the inaugural function held this evening.

Valedictory function will be held tomorrow evening and Minister for forest and environment Ramanath Rai is expected to be the chief guest.  Ati Kalanja the traditional dance form practiced in Tulunadu is the main attraction during the two days of festivities.
