ENARADA, Mysore, March 22, 2014

Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information, Infrastructure & Innovations  today said that country needs mentors  not teachers.

Delivering  94th convocation address of Mysore University here, he said content is already created by best of the best in the world and it is available on the net.

“Today we need teachers to be mentors. But none of our teachers are trained to be mentors”, Pitroda said.

Speaking on the innovation, he said the country is creating two major networks with an investment of 50,000 crores – knowledge network to connect all Universities, R & D institutions and libraries. Second network to connect 2,50,000 local panchayats through optical fiber. He pointed out that first one is ready, second one will be built during the next eighteen months.

Dr. Sam Pitoroda, Devanur Mahadeva, eminent writer and Y. K .Puttasomegowda, retired IAS officer and president of  Krishik Sarvodaya Foundation received  honoris causa degree on the occasion.
