ENARADA, Belagavi, December 9, 2014

Today being Angarika Sankasht Chaturthi, an auspicious  day for devotees of lord Ganesh, there was a huge congregation of devotees in Temples of Ganesh, across the country to take part in religious festivities.

The pooja in most of the temples begun as early as 6.15am.

According to Hindu mythology, Angarak (planet Mars), son of Bharadwaj Rishi and Mother earth, made tapasya  to Ganesh and on the day of Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Magh Month (the day was Tuesday), Lord Ganesha blessed him.  Hence devotees observe Sankashti on Tuesday as ‘Angarika Chaturthi.’

Devotees observe fast till Chadrodaya. This annual Vrat is considered more auspicious than normal sankashti Chaturthi. Some say Angarika Chaturthi falls on 3 times a year but majority believes that it is once in a year event.

Team Enarada visited Sri Panchavati Sonya Maruti Mandir near RTO circle, Belagavi at 6am, today and witnessed faithful devotees in large numbers waiting for the pooja to start. Many had brought silver arati plates from home. There was a brisk sales of pooja materials at the stalls within the temple premises.

Sridhar Purushottam Anagolkar, priest  of the temple said devotees offer lamps, flowers, Garike(Grass) and do prdakshina namaskara to  the deity of Lord Ganesh to overcome obstacles in life. “By observing Angarika Sanksht Chaturthi , one can easily overcome all the obstacles in both personal and professional life. Entire family will lead a content life.”
