Election Awareness through Paragliding !

The Mysore District administration has initiated a novel method to educate voters.  It has taken steps to systematic voter’s education for electoral participation programme in the city by using paraliders to spread the message of need for exercising franchise in the assembly elections. Elections are scheduled to be held on May 5.

At the directive of th Election Commission of India, for the first time  the State Government has initiated  steps throughout the State by employing a low flying paraglider with electoral publicity banners hung from the paraglider with messages on voting rights and need for  voting.

As part of the programme, the paraglider was flagged off from Mandakalli airport here today by Deputy Commissioner and District Election officer C.Shikha.

The paragliders fly over the city few times. The paraglider is said to be provided by Meghalaya Paragliding Association and piloted by Nikolai Singh with four assistants. The publicity programme was expected to cover the districts of Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Hassan and Ramanagar in the next three days.

Speaking after the launch of the paraglider at Mandakalli airport, Dy. Commissioner Shikha said that the paragliding with banners on electoral participation hung from the glider would definitely create awareness among people on Assembly polls and voting rights. She added that the campaign has focused on areas which normally have a low percentage of voting.

District Youth Services and Sports Assistant Director Suresh, Nehru Yuva Kendra Director Nataraj, ZP Planning officer Vasundaradevi, DDPI Basavaraj and Mandakalli Airport Director Manjunath were present during the launch.

A van provided by the Information Department with publicity material on voting rights will also visit all the villages in the district.
