Elephants catwalk on weigh-bridge

ENARADA, Mysore, August 31, 2013:

Elephants which are taking part in the Mysore Dasara procession on October 14, were weighed today.

All the six trained elephants belonging to first batch were seen lined up and walking majestically on the weigh-bridge on Dhanwanthri Road to get their weight checked.

Considering the fact that Elephants have to be fit enough to participate in the extremely difficult Jamboo Savari, Government is keeping an eye on the health condition of each elephants.

Today’ checking the weight exercise is said to be an effort to plan feeding different types of food in order to keep them healthy and conducive for training purpose. The elephants have to get their weight checked again on the Ayudha Puja day.

Main elephant Arjuna  which carries heavy Howda during the 10 KMs procession was weighed 5535 Kgs.

Gajendra weighed 4755 Kgs, Balarama weighed  4650 kgs, Sarala weighed 3290 Kgs, Abhimanyu weighed 4870 Kgs and Varalakshmi weighed 2965 Kgs.
