Somany while addressing members of Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry(FKCCI) in Bengaluru on April 22, said small scale industry sector generates more jobs and create an opportunity for millions of people to become self reliant.

He further added, FICCI believes that country’s growth depends on creating jobs and making people self reliance. Small scale industry sector is like a back bone of our country and need to be encouraged as it can provide Jobs and boost to economy.

Somany observed that heavy industries with huge investment opt for automation and need only few people to manage the business. Whereas small scale industries provide job opportunities to millions of people, hence this industry should be empowered.

Apart from boosting small scale industries, there is an urgent need to revive our educational pattern in the country, Somany said.

The schools and colleges are not teaching reality which the students have to do after completing their education. When there is vacancy, over 300 applicants appear for an interview and employer should be lucky if he gets at least 2 or 3 people who are suitable for the job. “This indicates there is a disconnect between what the college teaches and what the industry needs. Training of 3 to 6 months while a person is in college to understand the real needs of the industry is needed,” said Sandip Somany.

The interesting presentation and an active question & answer session went on for two hours and members of FKCCI were happy to discuss many issues affecting various industries in an open forum.
