Enjoy Dasara with Lip-smacking dishes

ENARADA, Mysore,  October 1, 2013:

A one-stop-shop for lip-smacking delicacies from across India, the Dasara Ahara Mela here is taking people of all ages on a food  journey from October  5.

Rajendra M., chairman of the food festival subcommittee, told journalists today that “The response has been overwhelming . We are ensuring that the premises are litter-free. prizes will be given to stalls that maintain cleanliness.”

He said the mela will be inaugurated by Karnataka food  and civil suppliesl minister Dinesh gundu rao.

From the traditionally prepared dishes of the State to the spicy chaats of Rajasthan, foodies are being tempted by the enticing aromas and tantalising tastes of the food festival that is being held on the premises of Scouts and Guides  in front of Deputy commissioner office in the city.

There are about 100 stalls selling a variety of food at the event, with separate vegetarian and non-vegetarian sections, he added.

Stalls selling famous dishes from Davangere, including ‘masala mandakki’ and ‘nargis mandakki’ (snacks made of puffed rice), ‘mirchi bajji’, and ‘Davangere benne dose’ welcome visitors.

As usual, ‘jolada rotti’ (jowar roti) and ‘yennegayi pallya’ (brinjal curry), the most famous dish of north Karnataka, is a big hit. Elderly women from the region have been specially brought here to treat the hungry hordes to a feast.

Stalls from Dakshina Kannada are teeming with people, thanks to the coastal specialities. Long queues of people are seen in front of the stalls selling ‘neeru dose’, ‘patrode’, special ‘shavige’, ‘gole bajji’, and ‘Mangalore bun’.

Meanwhile, the Bangarpet chaat stall offers a special variety of ‘pani puri’ with three types of ‘pani’, samosas, ‘kachori’ and ‘pav bhaji’. Chaat, as well as sweets such as ‘gulab jamoon’ and special ‘laddu’ are available at the Rajasthan stall.

Visitors may enjoy the various dishes while watching traditional dance and music. Eating competitions for all ages is added attraction.
