Farmers demand reimbursement of agricultural loans

Mysore, June 10, 2013:

A group of  farmers staged a demonstration in front of the MDCC Bank head office in the city urging to fulfill their demands that included re-imbursement of agricultural loans upto Rs. 25,000 repaid by farmers.

‘The previous BJP Government had ordered waiver of all agricultural loans upto Rs. 25,000 for the  farmers who have availed loan between 1.8.2011 and 25.7.2012. But several farmers have already returned the loan. As such those farmers who have repaid the loans should be re-imbursed,’ the protestors demanded.

They also urged the government to meet their charter of demands that included among others extension of loan waiver scheme, fresh loan advances to farmers based on crops and area of farmland and advancing loan upto 75 percent of registered value of farmland and implementation of scheme announced by the Congress Government that entailed interest free loans from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh and upto Rs. 5 lakh with 3 per cent annual interest.

The protesters urged the government to probe the irregularities that have taken place in Co-operative Societies, total computerisation of the working of Co-operative Institutions and bodies and distribution of seeds and fertilizers through Co-op. Societies. KRRS leaders Hoskote Basavaraj, M.S. Ashwath Narayan Raje Urs, Gurulingegowda, Alagudu Mahadeva, Chikkanna, Palani and Karigowda led the protesters.
