Even as Mangalore is in festive spirit with Dasara celebrations beginning yesterday, the pall of gloom gripped the city as five teenage boys who went to the river for a swim feared drowned today October 6, 2013.  The boys were drowned in river Baddodi Kudru near Tannir Bavi.  Those who feared drowned are identified as Rakshith, Prajwal, Yakshith, Kalandar (all 14 years) and Rajesh (17).  The body of one of the boys has been recovered though his identity is not known.

According to reports available altogether eight boys had gone to practice Huli Vesha (tiger dance)  and went to the river side for a wash after the practice.  They were washed away by a strong current of water.  While three boys could swim to safety five were washed away.

The death of teenage boys in the tragedy has come as a rude shock to the people of the city who have been in a festive mood with the colorful starting of Dasara and Navaratri Utsav in the city from yesterday, October 5, 2013.
