Fruits, flower exhibition cynosure of all eyes at Kadri Park

The two-day exhibition on floriculture & apiculture organized at Kadri Park starting from today has been a crowd puller as people came in large numbers to watch the expo and have a look at diverse variety of fruits and flowers on display.  People were seen marveling the fruits and vegetables grown both in pots and also in makeshift garden.  The entire parked resembled like a beautifully decked bride with fruits, flowers and vegetables as her ornaments.

The horticulture department attracted those who were interested in growing vegetables or those who just wanted to enjoy seeing different type of vegetables suspended from the makeshift mantaps.  People could feast on different varieties of brinjals, bitter guard, ash guard, ladyfinger, ridge guard, bottle guard, cucumber;   different varieties of French beans, snake gourd, chillies were on display in the horticulture section.  Tomorrow being Sunday, the exhibition is expected to attract more visitors.  The exhibition is an attempt to create awareness among people on terrace farming which can be cultivated easily be all people.

Apart from vegetables   there were exotic flowers in various colours and varieties which was a sheer pleasure to watch.   There were anthoriums, tulips, orchids, gladiolas, marigolds, zenias, garden plants with rare colours of flowers and a variety of flowers that can be grown in this part of the coastal region.  A variety of   Medicinal   plants were also on display.

 

In the fruits section the organizers succeeded in arresting the attention of the visitors with their beautiful carvings out of the vegetables. It was nothing but creativity at display at its best.

The exhibition also displayed products of various organizations like ISIRI herbals, Alva Pharmacy, products of various Agricultural organizations and a variety of agro products like pickles, pappads, sambar powders oils and other traditional eatable items. Finished products in the form of food, clothing and other agricultural items were on display at the exhibition.

Earlier in the day, Dr Mohan Alva   inaugurated the flower and fruits exhibition.   Dy Commissioner of Mangalore N Prakash inaugurated the honey exhibition; Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner K Harish Kumar inaugurated the vegetable garden.  Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijayaprakash presided over the function.
