Enarada, Mysore, June 30, 2013:

The Revenue Department is contemplating on acquiring the encroached land in the district to build schools and hostels for the Dalits , said Revenue and District In-Charge Minister V. Sreenivas Prasad here today.

He was speaking  at a function organised by Mysore Divisional SC/ST Aided and Un-Aided Educational Institution in the city. Organisers had planned a mega event to felicitate the Ministers and newly-elected legislators but because of the Uttarakhand flood disaster, the celebration was scaled down to a simple event.

He said that the private educational institutions, instead of angling for government grants, must provide more facilities to the students and make education affordable for people from all walks of life.

Citing the example of NTM School  in city which has raked up a controversy following the proposal to hand it over to Ramakrishna Ashram to build Swami Vivekananda Memorial, the Minister said that those who speak up for saving Kannada medium government schools must first send their children and grand-children to such schools and set examples.

The minister also said that only education can bring in equality in the society between the downtrodden masses and the socially developed ones.

The programme was inaugurated by Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha member R. Dhruvanarayan.

Addressing the gathering, Dhruvanarayan expressed regret that land encroachment was on the rise and suggested that the government must acquire the encroached government lands and build schools and students’ hostels on them.

PWD Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, Manorakkhitha Bhantheji of Kollegal Buddhist Centre, MLAs Tanveer Sait, Chikkamadu, M.K. Somashekhar and G.T. Devegowda, Association’s Honorary President Subbaiah, President Kantharaju, Vice-President D. Gopal and others were present on the occasion.

G.T. Devegowda, speaking on the occasion, said that Dr. Mahadevappa, being the PWD Minister, gets major grants and hence, urged him to develop the rural roads and provide other infrastructure on a priority basis all over the State.

MLA Tanveer Sait said that the 25,000 backlog posts in various government departments must be filled soon. He also recalled that during the tenure of S.M. Krishna as the Chief Minister, 50,000 such backlog posts were filled
