Mysore, April 8,2013:

Both publishers and printers of  advertisements pertaining to the ensuing assembly polls should take prior permission from media certification and monitoring committee  in conformity with the  guidelines  issued by the election commission of India, said additional deputy commissioner Naganayak here today.

Speaking at a meeting organized by the district administration, deputy director of information and publicity A R Prakash said that any advertisements or paid news published in media shall be accounted as the expenditure incurred by a particular candidate who had been fixed at Rs 16 lakhs.

Media persons who were present at the meeting took strong objections to the restrictions imposed on the media saying that the limit of Rs 16 lakhs was far from the actual expenses of the candidates and alleged that it was a move to impose conditions on small newspapers.

Reacting to this, Mr.Prakash said that the matter would be brought to the notice of the election commission and reiterated that he was only narrating the guidelines given by the election commission of India.
