Mysore, April  8, 2013:

In an effort to make the visit pleasant, the Mysore Palace Board has come up with an idea to create ‘White Walkway’ to help the visitors and  tourist beat the heat.

People who wish to take a round of the Mysore Palace have to come bare  foot. This being the hottest summer in Mysore, the cement roads become hot in the sun and visitors find it difficult to walk on them. In order to give a cooling experience for visitors, the Palace Board has decided to create white walkway which repulses heat from the sun and keep their feet cool even in hot sun.

Currently, Mtech Solutions, a Chennai based company, has been doing it on an experimental basis. The selected lane will be washed with a special solution and later will be coated with CPSM chemical. It will then be painted with water tight epoxy paint using Techno Bond technology. Lastly, a reflect coat is painted on the lane to complete the project. This kind of painting will absorb the heat emitted from the sun and will give a cooling effect to people walking on the ‘White Lane’.

Palace Board Dy. Director T.S. Subramanya said around Rs. 500 is being spent to paint one square meter that is around Rs. 45-50 to paint one sq ft. “We have also checked the temperature on the lane. While the temperature on the ground was 57 degree Celsius and 67 degree Celsius on the carpet, the temperature on ‘White Lane’ was 34 degree Celsius. Based on the success of the experiment, similar white tracks will be constructed at the selected places in Mysore Palace premises”, he said.
