Enarada, Mysore, June 15, 2013:

Nanjangud, the abode of Lord Srikanteshwara, which is also called as ‘Dakshina Kashi,’ today witnessed hectic activity as the two day 12th District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, organised by Mysore District Kannada Sahitya Parishat got off to a colourful start.

A grand procession comprising cultural troupes, which was flagged off by Parishat President M.Chandrashekar, passed through the main streets of the Temple Town to mark the occasion. Tahsildar Arul Kumar hoisted the ‘Nada Dhwaja.’

Sammelana President Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy, seated in a flower decked open jeep, was brought in a procession from Chintamani Ganapathi Temple on Ooty road to the venue Srikanteshwara Kalamandira adjacent to the temple, accompanied by 12 cultural and folk troupes..

Inaugurating the Sammelana, ZP President Siddaveerappa said that it was a matter of great happiness that the 12th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana was being held at Nanjangud and wished the Sammelana all success.

The cultural troupes which accompanied the procession included Veeragase troupe led by Kiralu Mahesh, Dollu Kunitha and Pooja Kunitha troupe of Dharwad and children taking out a march-past.

Meanwhile, a group of Dalits staged a black flag demo at the Sammelana venue alleging that they had been neglected while outsiders were given prominence in the organisation of the Sammelana. They also demanded more representation for the artistes of the district.

Revenue Minister V.Srinivasa Prasad , MP Vishwanath, other elected representatives, officers, actors, poets and students participated with Zeal.
