ENARADA, Bhubaneshwar, August 12, 2013:

KiiT International School hosted the 2nd KiiT International School Model United Nations (MUN) from 9th to 11th August 2013. The school had a festive fervor, with more than 350 delegates in its premises to discuss debate and derive solutions for world issues.

Supported by the Odisha Debating Society, United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, the MUN Summit became the cynosure of the city with delegates from United World College joining in to give it a global flavor.

MUN opened to a packed auditorium full of youngsters with the participation of nearly 35 schools including South City School from Kolkata, Timpany’s, Vishakha Valley from Vizag, and several other schools from Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur.

The Second KiiT IS MUN had 6 Councils in all, including the Harry Potter inspired Ministry of Magic with its Goblet of Fire, Futuristic Council on Population, UN Office of Drug and Crime with special emphasis on South America, and the East Asia Summit for 25 South East Asian Countries, African Union for Empowerment of Women. The Executive Board which was a mix of youngsters from Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Odisha was unequivocal in its praise for the KiiT IS MUN and termed it as ‘awesome’.

Speaking on the inaugural ceremony, Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS emphasized on the need for the youth to have exposure, empathy and respect for others less privileged than them.

The welcome address for the inaugural function was given by Dr. Mona Lisa Bal, Chairperson of the School who highlighted the need for informed dialogue in a dynamic world that now cared to listen to voice of the youth, even those so far unheard. Citing the example of Laxman Hembrum of KISS, Representative from India on Malala Day of the United Nations, she urged the young delegates to engage fruitfully and arrive at resolutions for world issues.

Mr. Sanjay Suar, Principal of the school encouraged students to learn from the experience and reap the benefits of the special debating councils like the Ministry of Magic and the Futuristic Council on Population.

The Secretary General for the 2nd KiiT IS MUN, Apoorva Sethupathy, declared the MUN open while Ms. Nikita Ahya gave a brief overview of the event. Mr. S.N. Mohanty, Administrative Officer of the School gave the vote of thanks.

Dr. Samanta gave away the prizes to a cheering crowd and released a special newsletter from the International Press Council of the MUN before closure.
