News 1) Foolproof arrangements at counting venue in Mangalore

Mangalore, March 9, 2013

The counting of votes for the 60 wards of Mangalore City Corporation is scheduled to be held   March 11, 2013, at Rosario High School Campus in the city.   The counting will begin at 7 am and results are expected to be out by forenoon.

In view of the counting, Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Karbikar has announced certain restrictions with regard vehicular movement including traffic diversion near the venue of counting to avoid any chaos or unwanted incidents.

Vehicular movement near Rosario High School area on March 11, 2013 will be as follows:

1.      Vehicle movement from Hamilton Circle towards Rosario will be completely restricted.

2.  Vehicles coming from Pandeshwar Katte towards Cozy Corner Apartment are  also restricted.

3.    Vehicles moving from A B Shetty Circle  towards Rosario High School will have to move towards Mangaladevi via Nehru circle

4.      Vehicles moving from Hoige Bazar towards Rosario will have to take a right turn near Cozy Corner Apartment near Rosario Church Road

5.      Vehicles coming from Bunder will have to take diversion to the right from Neereshwalaya Junction towards Goods Shed.

The Police Commissioner has informed that proper road signs will be provided  to enable smooth traffic flow in this area.  He also promised to deploy traffic police in these areas to avoid any confusion.

 

 

News 2) Mohandas Pai bats for changes in Education sector

Mangalore, March 9, 2013

T V Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education, has called for change in the education sector so as to keep pace with the changing times and needs.

Addressing the students as the chief guest during the 133rd College day celebrations of St Aloysius College, Mangalore, he said “New developments at the global level will bring us new challenges.  Only those people who win these challenges will be able to be successful in life.   For education to remain competent it has to change with the changing times”.

Pai who conveyed women’s day greetings to female students said the society should create a conducive atmosphere for women to live in dignity.  He said “Women will soon dominate all the important sectors and would attain success and glory as they have made their presence felt in diverse fields”.

Prizes of various competitions held during the academic year were  distributed on the occasion.  The programme ended with various cultural programmes performed by the students.

 

 

News 3)  Robbery attempt gone wrong, public thrash thieves

Mangalore, March 9, 2013

It was a case of too near yet too far for the two thieves who succeeded in snatching a gold chain from a woman but ran out of their luck when their bike skidded and they were caught red-handed by the public who thrashed them black and blue. 

The incident occurred at Rangapade near Neermarga this morning, March 9, 2013.  Two youngsters who came in a  bike when Sundari (50) was walking on the road and they snatched away her seven sovereign goldchain.

 Fortunately for her, the thieves who tried to run away from the scene fell when their bike skidded.  As the lady had raised an alarm by shouting the public who gathered at the scene caught hold of the thieves and assaulted them before handing them over to the police.

The duo who were taken to Wenlock Hospital for treatment have been identified as Mustafa (20) from Bantwal and Rafiq (26) from Nelyady. 

Kankanady police have registered a case.  The gold chain was handed over to the lady by the police after she identified the culprits at the Wenlock Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.    

 

 

News 4)  Woman Passenger robbed in Mathsyagandha Express

Mangalore/Honnavar March 9, 2013

A theft of valuables worth Rs. 8 laks has been reported from a train passenger of Matsyagandha Express near Honnavar raiwaly station on March 8, 2013.

It is said that the thief came to the compartment S4 in which Thane resident Gopal Naik was travelling with his wife Prema at around 6 am when they reached Honnavar Station and ran away snatching Prema’s vanity bag containing cash of Rs. 20,000/- jewelry, pan card, house key and other documents.     Railway police have registered a case.
