Legendary Singer PBS passes away

Legendary playback singer Dr. P B Srinivas died on Sunday following a brief illness,

“Srinivas (82) was not keeping well for the past few days and breathed his last at his Chennai residence” family sources said. Srinivas is survived by two sons and daughter.

Popularly known as PBS, sang over 3,000 songs in a career spanning over four decades. The veteran singer lent his voice in all four South Indian languages besides Hindi. He was the playback singer behind Kannada superstar Dr. Rajkumar and Tamil veteran Gemini Ganesan.

He made his debut as a singer with the Hindi film Mr Sampat in 1952. His first Kannda film was Bhaktha Kanakadaasa (1960). He last crooned for the song Pemmane from the Tamil film Aayirathil Oruvan in 2010.

Sandalwood actors and people from the music industry mourned the death of the legendary singer. They expressed their condolences on Twitter. /ENN
