Manipal gang rape – victim to co-operate

ENARADA, Udupi, July 2, 2013:

With the victim of the Manipal gang rape case showing willingness to cooperate the police and the general public who are greatly perturbed by the incident, can now heave a sigh of relief.

This fresh development has come like a whip of fresh air particularly because without the victim’s statement legal experts were of the opinion that the case would not stand in the court of law.    The victim has agreed to give her statement on the condition that her statement should be kept confidential.

This news was revealed by Pratap Reddy, IGP (Western Range) at a press meet in Udupi today, July 2, 2013.  He said that with the victim coming forward to cooperate, the police will be able to get a full report by tomorrow required to file the charge sheet.

Brothers of the two accused arrested for destroying evidence-
In another significant  development  pertaining to the incident the police arrested brothers of the two accused in the Manipal gang rape case on the charges of  destroying evidence.

The arrested are Balachandra, brother of Yogish  and Harindra, brother of another accused Hariprasad of Parkala.

The IGP said that when the police were carrying out the investigation to nail the culprits soon after the incident, it was confirmed that the two were helping the accused to destroy scientific evidence from the auto used for the crime.

The IGP also revealed that the department has sought the help of forensic experts from Mangalore and Bangalore to assist police in the investigation.
