US Ambassador Inaugurates American Study Center at KISS

Ms. Nancy Jo Powell, Her Excellency the US Ambassador to India inaugurated an American Study Center at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on January 15, 2013. The American Study Center, which will function at KISS in collaboration with Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, is the 41^st such center in the country and the first in the State of Odisha.

During her visit to KISS, Ms. Powell graced the certificate distribution ceremony for the students of English Access Micro Scholarship Program. She gave away certificates to 100 participants, who successfully completed the Program. Addressing students of English Access Micro Scholarship Program of KISS, she said, as English is the most widely spoken language of the world, it is very important for all to learn and speak the language. Along with English language skill, one also requires computer skill and critical thinking skill to be able to exchange their views at global platform, she added. Hoping that the Program will enable the learners to make a new beginning, Ms. Powell thanked all trainers, teachers and coordinator for their support and congratulates the successful students.

She also interacted with 20,000 tribal students of KISS and visited all campuses of KIIT. Welcoming the US Ambassador to the campus, Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said, the English Access Micro Scholarship Program was initiated by the then US Ambassador to India Mr. Timothy J. Roemer.

Among others Prof. B. C. Tripathy, VC, Ravenshaw University, Prof. P. P. Mathur, VC, KIIT, Smt. Saswati Bal, President, KIIT & KISS, Ms. Katherine S. Dhanani, US Consul General, Hyderabad and Dr. P. K. Routaray, CEO, KISS were present on the occasion.
