Mysore, April 2, 2013 :

There was anxious movements among the three major political  party candidates in Mysore district  waiting for the officials list with the weeks time left for the filing of nominations for the assembly elections for May 5 elections .

The three Major political parties have been preparing the winnable   candidate list while finalizing the list for the assembly polls in urban and rural parts which was strong congress bastion in Mysore district.

Among the three parties. The congress   which has been facing problems as too many aspirants for the tickets while Bbharatiya Janata Party and the Janatadal (Secular) are facing problems of prominent candidates pitching against the congress in the district.

The Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) are banking on the ‘winability factor’ while finalizing candidates for the Assembly polls in urban areas in the district.

Event though the political party leaders claimed that the elections will not be held on a cast and religion basis, however, to it was true to the fact that, the candidates will be selected on the basis of this theory of community wise votes in the each and every constituencies

A senior congress party leader said that the party has been adopting a wait –and – watch policy in order to avoid dissidences, hence the delay in the announcement the list. Even the congress party wanted to win maximum number of seats in the district. .

However, the final list may be announced anytime now and it is expected that all sitting MLAs will get the ticket and this includes Tanvir Sait from Narasimharja Assembly constituency while the former MLA M.K. Somashekar from congress   is expected to be fielded from Krishanara Assembly constituency.

The congress contenders are , leader of the opposition Siddaramiah, seeking reelection from Varuna, V.Srinivasa Prasad, five time MP, looking  second assembly term from Nanjangud .while H C Mahadevappa(T. Narasiprua ),Manjunath ( Hunsur),Venkatesh( periyaptana), Chikkanna (H D Kote)  Satayanarayna( Chamundeswari) are the probable candidates. The congress looking for a strong contender for the Chama raja constituency in the city and K R Nagara in the rural area. Congress has won eight seats in last assembly elections.

It was a different case with the BJP, wanted to increase their popularity in the district looking for a familiar faces . The only candidate who is sure to secure the ticket is S.A. Ramdas, who is seeking re-election from Krishnaraja Assembly constituency.  It was also known fact that  BJP  only seat they hope to win in Mysore urban region.

In the 2008 Assembly elections, the BJP notched up two seats with Mr. Ramdas being elected from Krishnaraja and H.S. Shankarlinge Gowda from the Chamaraja Assembly constituency. But, with Mr. Shankarlinge Gowda shifting his loyalties to the JD(S), the BJP is on a sticky wicket here.

Mr. Shankarlinge Gowda had won from Chamaraja segment for four consecutive times on BJP ticket and many attributed his victory to his personal equations and rapport with the electorate rather than his association with the party.

Again, the delimitation of the Assembly segments in the run up to the 2008 polls resulted in a large swathe of area dominated by minorities coming under Chamaraja assembly segment while areas reckoned to be dominated by BJP supporters was included in the Krishnaraja Assembly segment. Hence the BJP workers fear that it has lost a significant chunk of its support base in the Chamaraja segment and this may go against their candidate in the elections.

This, coupled with the parting of Mr. Shankarlinge Gowda and the absence of candidates with the ‘winability factor’ has put the BJP at a disadvantage as far as Chamaraja Assembly segment is concerned from where it is expected to field Mysore Urban Development Authority chairman L. Nagendra.

From the Narasimharaja Assembly segment, the former MLA E. Maruti Rao Pawar is expected to enter the fray but the former Karnataka Exhibition Authority chairman B.P. Manjunath too is a strong contender though neither of them command a mass following in the constituency.

In case of the Janatadal (Secular) party which has been looking to increase the tally in the district short of popular figures.  The party which was been setting pretty well in K R Nagara from where sitting MLA, SA RA Mahesh looking second term.  While they are now banking on the chamararaja city constituency from where they likely to filing four time MLA Shankaralinge gowda , joined the party ditching BJP for not being denied minister birth during the last five years.

The JD-S also eyeing for a chamundeswari, Mysore rural constituency, pitching the G T Deve gowda, who returning to the party fold from BJP, was prominent leader.

Both JD-S and BJP, has to fight against the mighty congress in the district to settle the score in the May 5   elections./ENN
