NLSIU all set to introduce Master of Public Policy Programme

ENARADA, Bangalore, July 9, 2014

National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore in its silver jubilee year is introducing Master of Public Policy (MPP) Programme from this academic year 2014-16.

The launching of this two year residential programme is scheduled on Thursday, 10th July 2014 at 11.00 am at R K. Memorial Hall, Academic Block, NLSIU campus.

Ms. Aruna Roy, founder member of Mazdoor Kizan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) and National Campaign for People’s Right to Information (NCPRI) who spearheaded the revolutionary legislation of Right to Information, will deliver the inaugural address on “Citizens as the Makers of Law and Policy – Democractization of Policy Spaces through People’s Movements”.

Justice S. Rajendra Babu, former Chief Justice of India, will preside over the programme. Mr. D. Thangaraj, State Information Commissioner, Govt of Karnataka and Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, NLSIU Vice Chancellor will grace the occasion.

The two-year residential Master of Public Policy (MPP) Programme provides comprehensive training in designing public policies for the complex societal problems, translating policies into deliverable programmes, and in evaluating the efficacy of policies.

The course has adopted an innovative pedagogy which combines reflective learning through classroom discussions, in-field exposures, solving problems for real-world clients, internship and research dissertation. 40 students selected for the first batch come from come from 20 different states of India.

Prior to joining the course, they have completed graduate studies from a variety of disciplines such as Engineering, Management, Economics, Political Science, Journalism, History, Law, Medicine and Pure Science. Some of them are pursuing MPP as their second post-graduation. These students were selected after undergoing a tough national selection process through policy aptitude test and interview.

This course is being taught by distinguished faculty and practitioners within India and abroad.
