Udupi, March 2, 2013:
Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math expressed his opposition to the setting up of ultra mega thermal power plant at Niddodi in Dakshina Kannada District saying the 4000 mw capacity power project would cause irreparable damage to the ecology of this coastal region.
The Swamiji has given a clarion call to the locals and farmers to oppose the proposed power plant saying “people cannot feign ignorance on issues like this as this project may cause enormous damage to the environment of this area for a long time”.
He further pointed out that the Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has caused enough and more damage to the ecology and natural resources of this region. “We cannot afford any more destruction”, he stated.
